What a joy to say that I really did have a summer Siesta.
4 weeks of pleasure, rest, and true relaxation
It did my soul, my heart, and my marriage good.
Months of trying to "catch up" with my emotions, and all that has happened, we decided to drop everything and leave. Literally packed up the caravan, and the dogs. Tossed in some books, food, and clothing and took off. We also decided to unplug from social media, and put on the "voice mail" to family and friends, work, and obligations.
That was a brilliant thing to do. Because it gave me back the power to do what feels good for myself. I finally feel that I caught up, took a huge deep breath; and plunged into the refreshing and rejuvenating waters of living simply, and day by day.
In a caravan you can only drag along so much, There is a tiny kitchen with a minuscule fridge, and only a 3 pit stove ; NO oven or microwave. Showers, and bathrooms were in the restroom building. OK, it had floor heating, and it was very neat and tidy, but you still had to go outside, walk to the building; do your things and walk all the way back to our campsite. Made fussing and primping rather senseless, especially if it was raining, or very cold at night.
To many this all seems primitive and horrible. Let me tell you what I got in return.
Sunrises, sunsets.
Silence.
Bird songs, croaking frogs, and the hummmmm of the bees.
Swimming in the swimming hole, while hundreds of swallows were swooping around me, drinking and refreshing themselves, amid them. They put on an airshow every day for me. I spent hours watching in amazement as they showed off their aerobatic aerial skills.
Sunning, and sitting in the shade; reading book after book. Better yet, dozing off; because all the tension left my body and my mind.
Reconnecting with my husband.
A sense of adventure and discovery as we went down unknown country lanes and paths.
Dogs happily bounding ahead of us as they followed their noses.
Sleep. Real deep healing sleep.
And so much more.
My summer Siesta was sublime.
Am blessed that I could do it.
