Christmas Miracle....come early December 11, 2017

October 28, 2017

while driving on the highway,
there was a bump underneath our car.
I saw an animal flash across the highway lanes.

Alert, our cat Tinka is missing.

9 years old, has never stayed away all night.
This is not good.

Panic strikes through my heart...
No, it couldn't have been her
under my car.
No.....she's never crawled under a motor hood.

Phonecalls, messages, posters, flyers,
phoning vets, animal shelters, friends, Facebook notices.
Urgent.  It is getting cold outside, and winter is nearing.
Storms, rains, freezing nights.
My heart turns cold and freezes with pain.
The thought that she has not been found.

My helplessness turns sadly into a beginning phase of acceptance.
She may never be found, alive or dead.
That microchip is my only sparkle of hope.

My hands are empty, my heart hears no purr, and feels no warmth.
Not having a furry companion is not an option for me.
I begin to open to the thought of starting again, with a kitten.

Days have become weeks, and weeks have dragged me into more than a month of worry.
I have lost weight, but the tears are in abundance and always nearby.
I secretly begin to hope that maybe my Christmas stocking will be wriggling with a new kitten.
Call me the "cat lady", to me it is my identity,  a title I wear proudly.

On a grey Monday afternoon, last week;  there is a knock at our front door.
A timid man nervously begins to tell his story.
Twitching with emotions, and rushing his words;
wanting to tell his story quickly.

"Lady, you are missing your cat.
I have to tell you something...."

My heart is pounding, and my lungs are being squeezed with anxiety.
Dear God, is he going to tell me that he has had an accident, with Tinka?
That he is going to say that she is dead?

As he gasps for a breath, so do I....his tale continues.

" I live in Wildervanksdallen....
and I have her......"

WHAT?????
Tinka....alive.?!?!?!....is she hurt?
How is it possible?

Slowly we both breathe and begin to puzzle and find answers as to how Tinka came there.

As far as I can understand,
she did get into the motor compartment, that fateful day.
and the bump we heard, was Tinka falling out of the car.
It is already a miracle that she didn't get hit by another car on that highway.

She seems to have survived the first 4 weeks in the fields by Wildervanksdallen.
But became weaker, and more hungry as the cold set in.
2 weeks ago, she decided to "ask for help" and collapsed by this gentleman's back door.

The first week
he fed her, cared for her, and was not able to move her.
The second week, she improved, and he wanted to have her checked by a vet,
and give her basic medical care.

I bless the veterinarian for scanning the cat for the microchip.
That microchip gave them my contact information.

This is where my miracle fully begins.
The gentleman was honest enough to decide to return Tinka to me.

As he continued to explain what he had done for her, I could see his heart breaking.
He too had fallen in love with her.
It took all of his courage, and sense of honour and what is right
to let her go, and return her to me.

My miracle continues
This good Samaritan refused to tell me his name, or address.
As he came back in the evening, with Tinka in her transport basked, he again
refused to identify himself.
I had flowers for him and wanted to pay back the medical costs for Tinka.
He refused.
He practically ran out the door, with the empty cat carrier in hand.
His heart was breaking.
As he fled out the door, he only turned and quietly asked

" I might come by again, to see her, and if she is ok.  If that is ok with you?"

Of course, please come by.....and visit us.

You lovely man, honest, and kind.

Thank you for protecting, caring, and loving my cat.

To me; you are an angel....who guarded my beloved cat.
I can't thank you enough.

My Christmas miracle came early
in the disguise of a
quaint little man
who
is a mystery and a miracle person
to me, and to Tinka.
