Patient Pet Saturday April 11, 2015

This week our dog "Summer" needed surgery to remove a very large lump on her chest.  Medically it was not a health threat, but it was becoming too large, and had begun to hamper her movements.  The aftermath of the operation was the usual "drunk" dog scenario.  Poor thing was so hungover, that we placed a huge mattress in the living room, so she could sleep it off while laying within view of us. The first 24 hours post-op went well.  Then she began to discover that she could lick the wound.  We luckily were prepared and waiting for this.  So we trussed her up with the appropriate anti lick gear and this is the result:

OK, I know it looks overdone.  But this is only temporary.  She had already undressed herself, from a tied on T-shirt I had tried to make her wear.  Houdini dog...Hard not to laugh when she is laying on her back, in her basket, with the torn off T-shirt being used as her pillow!
Today is now 48 hours post op.  For most of the day she is without her anti lick gear.  Only when we have to leave her alone for a while, or for during the night. Thankfully the vet said the stitches will dissolve in about 10 days.  In the meantime, Summer looks like a sausage, with a lampshade, who is not amused.
