This Easter I am trying a new approach. I have always been one of traditions, and pulling the family together for official meals, and trying to keep my memories of past Easters alive. Busy with setting formal tables, planning complicated meals, and fussing over the appearance of everything Easter.
But, as situations change; health issues limit our time, and energy; and the children are no longer children. I have to let go of my ideals and try to find a new way to make Easter for myself (and hubby) a new kind of special time. Since the past few weeks have been totally focused on doctor appointments, hospital visits, and more visits to come; I have to pace myself, and slow down so hubby can still enjoy the Easter, but at an easier tempo and with less intensity.
What is different this time, I am not going to buy all the usual "traditional" breads, and spreads. Not go all into decorating the home. But actually make something that I enjoy making, is special....and even my sons love it. (secret weapon...to try and lure them to come by and visit on Easter day) Massive cinnamon buns. Hubby is completely happy with a croissant or 2. Only one serious request from everyone....at least make the devilled eggs that they so love.
It will not be a sit down breakfast/brunch, but a more easy going "serve yourself" day. Instead of a formal table, I am buying lots of fresh flowers, such as daffodils and tulips. For the rest....you know where the coffee and tea are....grab a plate, find something delicious to eat; and join us .....
Just knowing that we are blessed, and are together. That is what counts.
Happy Easter, new style
