Today is Valentine's day.
Here in Holland, they are still trying to make it take off (after 20 years of annual attempts) , and become the commercial and marketing success that it is in North America. But for some reason, it has not really become a part of our traditions, and folklore. We do get all the pretty cards, fun goofy gifts, and the floral reminders that it is Valentine's day. It is half heartily done, but no where near the frenzied fluster and flutter that I remember Valentine's day to be.
Even as a child, I remember coming into the classroom, and trying to slip valentine's day cards into the desks of others that I had a crush on. And then the hope, and anticipation of opening my own desk, to see if I had cards from a secret admirer. We had Valentine's, that we had to punch out of paper, and the chic hallmark type cards were for someone really special.
This year I had hoped to give hubby a nice card, and maybe have a few romantic hours together. But last evening (night before Valentine's day), things shifted, and my plans had to be put aside.
Poor hubby's back went into complete spasm. Completely locked. So the poor man was so uncomfortable, and unhappy; that Valentine's day has been cancelled, due to a bad back. Somehow lots of hugs, cuddles and lots of fussing make him even more uncomfortable, and upset.
But, as the card says....he is my favorite husband. In sickness and in health....
Dear Hubby....hope you feel better soon.
