drive and dump Nov 8

Drive and dump.
That has been the motto of this household for the last week.  That is where I have been hiding. Under all the junk, and stuff that needed to be sorted, sifted and tossed.  Thanks to my sons, we waded our way through the garage, and areas in the attic.
Luckily hubby wasn't home for most of this, so there was less interference and fewer discussions about what stayed and went. There are only so many old nuts and bolts, screws, and "thingamabobbies" a person can save.  20 kilos later and 8 containers less, the remaining hardware "dewmahickies" were sorted and placed into 2 carpenter sorting boxes.

Ok, my part of this mess is the paint and wallpaper department.  I also have a weakness for saving little pots of paint....for "touch ups" .....and rolls of wall paper that are from our previous house.  My excuse was....wallpaper rolls are great for visitng children who like to draw a mural.  You never know. So fair enough, I had to let go of my rainbow paint pots collection, and out dated wall paper.
Sons sorted out their automotive gear, and finally threw away leaking old basketballs, and broken badminton rackets (that never were fixed).
Scenes like this, went on all week.  Unearthing tools, and gear that no one knew we even had, used, or owned.
So our family when through this therapy session with good grace, and we have back a tidy garage, and an attic that can once again welcome new boxes of treasures and memories.
My favourite part of all this, was the final farewell to everything that would be thrown out.

The DRIVE and DUMP part.

That always has to happen quickly, and efficiently here.  Because certain people have been known to "dumpster dive"  items back into the house again.  So the goal is to drive as fast as possible to the nearest dump, and dispose of things as quickly as we can. No time to change our minds about what was going, or come up with reasons to maybe hang on to something....just in case.

The afterglow of our accomplishment is seeing a cleared workbench, where we all can work, and hobby to our delight. Just have to remember to keep things tidy and in their place....or it will be another
DRIVE and DUMP therapy session.

things that I felt and saw in the last days that I am grateful for:
1. a day of happy memories of mom...without feeling sad.
2. watching the geese flying in beautiful formations, migrating south.
3. the sunshine we have had this past week, while doing all the sorting and clearing out of the garage.
4. the professional advice of a girlfriend while picking out new glasses frames.  She is an optomotrist and has great style and taste.  I can't make a choice for myself. I get too caught up trying on all the frames, good or bad, and can't remember which ones suited me best.  Takes weeks to narrow choices down.  With M along, we were done and dusted within 2 hours, including chique sunglasses with prescription glasses!
5. Happily tired, and looking forward to a good sleep.
