a time to remember November 10 and 11

This is a week of Remembrance.  Today in Holland we are having a memorial service for the victims of the plane crash MH17, and tomorrow it is Remembrance Day in Canada.
2 very good reasons  for me to be still, remember; and to never forget.
Both are inter meshed with the other.  Both are based on wars, power struggles, and innocent victims of these horrific acts.

Remembering the wars; and all those who suffered, were killed, or were damaged by them. The generations afterwards, who still see their loved ones suffering, by being  unable to have peace in themselves.  The fears, and emotions that surface when memories are triggered.

My father and mother were teenagers during WWII. I am grateful that they had the courage and strength to share some of their stories with me. My father's  participation as a resistance fighter was for him a life changing period in his life. It affected him for the rest of his life; being always suspicious of others, and wanting to have maximum control over everything. Simply said....he was for the rest of his life     " on guard".

I have a deep understanding and respect for those who cannot, or will not tell their history and what they experienced.  Many things are too horrible for words or comprehension. Some wounds never heal. Knowing this....we may never forget how valuable our freedoms are.

The plane crash and all those aboard are the innocent victims of a power struggle between nations/countries. There is no justification of those actions of those who are responsible. These acts are again unacceptable, just as those types of acts during the wars. "Lest we forget..."

In my eyes, it brings me back to basics...and what is my personal golden rule in life...

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Meaning: helping each other, respecting each other on a one- to- one basis. Caring, and sharing with those who have less or none.

Many will have their own opinion or thoughts about things like Remembrance Day.  Some voices are saying that it is time to stop having Remembrace Day.
I will always remember....and hope never to forget.

respectfully, and with gratitude
J.
