Wow. Today is a day full of memories, and hope for the future.
How to explain.
Most importantly, it is my mother's birthday today. She would have been 86 today. Missing her still so much.
Her birthday also ties into the next important memory event on this day: our anniversary. 33 years married to my "captain" and love.
We decided to make it a "double" feast. Our wedding and mom's birthday party. It was super easy to arrange. Since most of the guests for mom's birthday party would have been invited to our wedding, why not combine the 2?
We had secretly told the guests that part of the reception we would be dedicating to mom, and would surprise her with a birthday cake, and her gifts. The wedding reception was happily in progress when we left the room, and returns with a huge tray filled with gifts, and her birthday cake. Mom was so into OUR wedding day, that she had forgotten that it was her birthday, too. I will always remember her happy face as we celebrated these two very special events in one day. Happy Birthday Mom, in heaven.
As we woke up this morning, it was a special feeling of being united and still committed to our marriage after all these years. We have had huge mountains to climb in our relationship, and in our circumstances, and situations. But have made it so far by honoring our ground rule..."keep talking with each other, no matter what, and for ever how long it takes; even if it means seeing the sunrise until the problem/issue/argument/disagreement is resolved for both sides". We have seen several sunrises together, as shaky and painful as it was. But we are: together.
As said, lots of memories.
The hope for the future:
After more than half a year, of not being able to work; husband is for the first time ( today of all days) going to his first project since surgery and rehab. That fills us with hope and gratitude that he is well again, and able to do what he loves. To enjoy his hobbies, and be active and motivated with his work, and private life. It was an experience that really impacted him, and us as a couple.
Funnily enough, we aren't "together" today. Husband had to be brought to the airport this morning at 0500 hours!!!!!! and will be working abroad in Spain, until Monday. So we made a promise that we will celebrate our anniversary when he comes home. Happy Anniversary, love. Come home safely.
We have lots to celebrate, when we are together again.
