This afternoon I went to an "open house" at a senior citizens living complex. It is a living situation for 55 + living. Apartments for independent living. Assisted living is available, with home care, and nursing as needed. Also a nursing unit for those who need it. All on the same grounds, and all interconnected. But the joy of it, is that it is further interconnected into other areas of the community. Within the complex is a child day care, an activity center for those who are mentally challenged; who in turn help the elderly in the complex, guided care for the older people, who are needing extra assistance during the day. There is also a physio therapy clinic, a library, and a hairdresser on the grounds. The restaurant also provides "meals on wheels" to those who wish to stay at home, or are unable to come to the restaurant. It is mini community, within the community.
I didn't go there, to look for possible arrangements for myself, or for members of my family, or friends. I went because it was a chance to see my son in action. What an amazing moment to see him in his element. This is exactly his niche in life. Being able to combine his 2 passions, in this setting. As he showed us around, it was very impressive as to how the tenants, staff, and clients there responded to him as he came into the areas of the complex. My son is a chef. My son is also a very socially minded and caring person; who is able to connect to all ages. Through his cooking, and his interaction with the residents, visitors and guests; he not only fills their tummies with great food, but also fills their hearts with attention and genuine care and interest. In a way....he loves these people, through the food he makes for them.
This was a special moment, when I saw my son....as the man he is; and how he stands amongst others. I am blessed; with such a caring person; in my life.
